Change. It is a constant in everyone’s life. Whether it’s dropped in your lap, or you bring it on yourself, we all must adapt to change.
This blog is about change. Sometimes small, sometimes large. It’s also about the adventure and discovery that comes with any life-altering transformation. It’s about listening to your gut instincts, taking that huge gamble, and following a path. It’s about taking the whole family along on an adventure that will ultimately transform their lives for the better.
When change hit us in the form of a sudden job loss, we decided to follow a long-standing dream, take the plunge and sell almost everything in order to move my two teenage daughters, two golden retrievers and two black cats (and only one husband, of course…) from Marin County, California, to Chiang Mai, Thailand.
Frank and I had been planning on a “nomadic” retirement, spending a year in various countries and cities. By ruthlessly shedding assets and reducing our cost of living to a fraction of what it was in the US, we realized our financial model allowed us to take a breather in our careers and put the girls in an amazing International Baccalaureate high school. My two girls, Alex (16) and Catherine (14), got their first passports when they were 3 months and two years old, respectively, and gained valuable experience as expats living with us in Hong Kong and Europe. To keep the family together, we brought along our two golden retrievers and two black cats.
Change. Adventure. Discovery. Adapting. These are the themes we’ll be following through our journey. I don’t claim to be an expert in any of them. I’m simply taking you all along on our adventure. Like us, I’m not sure where this blog will go, but I’m happy to have you all along!
